Western Carolina DPT - Wilderness PT First Aid Course
About the Course
Learn to apply physical therapy skills in ANY environment. This wilderness physical therapy course teaches participants how to adapt patient treatment to austere environments all while balancing scene-safety and applying wilderness first aid skills. Realistic hands-on scenarios will be used to help participants leverage clinical skills to identify and provide intervention for a variety of potentially life-threatening conditions. The scenarios will be based on the presenters’ experiences providing point-of-contact backcountry patient care as PTs in the U.S. National Park Service, Jenny Lake Rangers in Wilderness Search and Rescue, Wildland Firefighting, and on the frontline during military deployments. We will also discuss career opportunities for PTs in these fields.

Located at a beautiful Tuckasegee riverfront property in Sylva, NC.
Registration Requirements:
Participation in this course is limited to Western Carolina University DPT Students. Upon Successful completion, participants will receive a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) Certificate.
